The BITSAT examination was launched from 2005 onwards by the authorities of the Birla Institutes of Technology, Pilani (BITS, Pilani). BITSAT is an Online entrance exam after XII Boards for admission into the undergraduate courses for Engineering and Science streams of the BITS, Pilani at Pilani, Goa and Hyderabad. There are altogether 2400 seats and no reservations. The BITSAT is usually conducted after XII Boards over a period of 4-5 days. From 2022 onwards, it is being conducted twice a year with best score considered just like JEE MAINS. A candidate can choose a particular day for appearing for the BITSAT exam. The question paper on a given day is the same - however it is not necessarily the case for candidates appearing for the exam on different days. The BITSAT is conducted in authorized centers which are located in select cities in India.
As per the latest 2022 exam pattern, the BITSAT exam contains 130 questions in five subjects viz. Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics (or Biology), English Proficiency and Logical Reasoning. The Qs break-up is as under :
Mathematics / Biology - 40,
Physics - 30,
Chemistry - 30,
English Proficiency - 10,
Each correctly attempted question gives 3 marks to the candidate and an incorrectly attempted question results in the deduction of 1 mark. No marks are added or deducted for not attempting the question. Thus, from 2022 onwards, the BITSAT is out of 390 marks.
A unique feature of BITSAT is that if a student attempts all the 130 questions, then he can get 12 questions as bonus (4 each in PCM) to further boost his score. However, total time allocated remains 3 hours only. So, technically speaking, the maximum possible score in BITSAT is 426 marks !
